Aluminum honeycomb panels, due to their lightweight, high strength, sound and heat insulation, excellent flatness, and durability, have been widely used in building curtain walls, transportation, shipbuilding, and high-end decoration. However, their structural characteristics and material properties dictate that specific precautions must be followed in each stage of material selection, processing, transportation, installation, and maintenance to ensure project quality and service life.

Firstly, during the material selection stage, targeted matching should be made based on the usage environment and functional requirements. The core advantage of aluminum honeycomb panels lies in the lightweight and high strength characteristics imparted by the honeycomb structure of the core material. However, in high-temperature or highly corrosive environments, aluminum alloy panels with better temperature resistance or special surface treatments should be preferred, and the fire resistance rating of the core material should be confirmed to meet local building codes. For projects with high aesthetic requirements, such as curtain walls, the thickness of the panels, the type of surface coating, and color difference standards must be carefully checked to avoid rework or insufficient performance due to incompatible materials.

During the processing stage, care should be taken to avoid mechanical damage and thermal deformation to the panels. While aluminum honeycomb panels can be cut, bent, and cold-formed, sharp tools should be used and feed speed controlled during cutting to prevent edge burrs or coating cracking. Bending should be performed on specialized equipment at the designed radius, with padding added to the stress-bearing surface to prevent direct stress on the panel, which could lead to dents or core material crushing. Drilling locations should avoid weak points in the honeycomb wall, and the hole diameter and countersunk treatment must be compatible with the specifications of the fasteners to prevent loosening or stress concentration. After processing, debris and dust should be cleaned promptly to keep the surface clean and avoid affecting subsequent coating or bonding effects.

During transportation and storage, care must be taken to prevent panel deformation and surface scratches. Large panels should be laid flat and separated with flexible padding to avoid interlayer friction and collisions. Special suction cups or soft straps should be used for handling; single-point lifting or dragging is strictly prohibited. The storage area should be flat, well-ventilated, and protected from rain, and contact with corrosive substances such as acids and alkalis should be avoided to prevent deterioration of the core material or coating performance.

Precautions during installation are particularly critical. The appropriate fixing method (dry hanging, adhesive bonding, or slotted fixing) should be selected based on the structural load and connection method, ensuring the keel or base layer is flat and secure. For large-area installations, adjustable supports are recommended to mitigate the effects of structural deviations and thermal expansion and contraction. The width of the panel joints should be uniform, and corners and finishing areas require meticulous treatment, using sealant or waterproof strips to ensure watertightness. Work at heights must strictly adhere to safety regulations to prevent panels from falling or causing injury.

For maintenance, the panel surface should be cleaned regularly using neutral detergents and soft tools, avoiding strong acids, alkalis, or hard brushes that could damage the coating. In heavily polluted or coastal areas, cleaning frequency should be increased, and the sealing of panel joints should be checked, promptly addressing any leaks or corrosion. Localized coating damage should be professionally repaired as soon as possible to prevent the core material from becoming damp or oxidized.

In summary, the entire process of aluminum honeycomb panel maintenance, from material selection to upkeep, requires tailored measures based on its structural characteristics and the usage environment. Strict quality and safety controls at each stage are essential to ensure safety, aesthetics, and durability while fully leveraging its comprehensive performance advantages and providing reliable support for engineering projects.
