Yes, you can clad composite panels with aluminum, but there are two different scenarios, and important limits.

1) Factory-bonded (proper ACM / aluminum honeycomb)

This is normal and widely used:

ACP / ACM: thin aluminum skins factory-bonded to PE or mineral core

Aluminum honeycomb panels: aluminum face sheets bonded to aluminum honeycomb core These are engineered sandwich panels, tested for thermal expansion, bond strength and fire performance. This is the safe, standard way.

2) Gluing / fixing solid aluminum sheet onto an existing composite panel on site

This is technically possible but not recommended for exterior facades, for these risks:

Thermal mismatch: both are aluminium, but the composite core (PE / mineral) has different expansion behaviour. Debonding, rippling or bubbling can happen outdoors with big temperature swings.

Bond failure: ordinary adhesive will fail under UV, moisture and cyclic heat. You need structural, exterior-grade adhesive, surface abrasion + plasma treatment.

Fire code risk: if the base composite has a combustible PE core, adding an aluminium cover does not automatically make it code-compliant for high-rise facades; many jurisdictions restrict PE-core ACM regardless of over-cladding.

Flatness: the thin original ACM skin is not designed to carry a second aluminium layer. It can telegraph unevenness.

Practical recommendations

Good option: Buy finished aluminium-faced composite panels (ACP or honeycomb) from the manufacturer, with PVDF/FEVE coating if external. If you must over-clad an existing composite panel with solid aluminium sheet:

Use rainscreen construction: mount the aluminium sheet on a subframe with an air gap, do not glue it directly to the composite.

Check local fire codes first, especially for multi-storey buildings.

Allow proper expansion joints.
